Lately, many have been wondering what's next for Jake Paul.  The YouTube star stirred fate thanks to the time he spent in boxing.  After his bouts with Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr were called off, he had to do something unusual to get people's attention to his fights again.  A clash against one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time might do the trick.

TMZ, following an initial report from NoSmokeBoxing, reported that Paul will be competing with Anderson Silva.  Paul later confirmed the match on social media.  The fight will take place in Phoenix on October 29.  The match will be played in eight rounds and with a catch weight (187 pounds).

Paul had been looking forward to fighting Silva for a long time.  When he chose to face Abdul Rahman after Fury's visa issues, Paul said he enjoyed the idea of facing Silva in Ariel Helwani's MMA watch.

"The Problem Child" is 5-0 in the boxing ring, having defeated AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley twice.  Rahman was supposed to fight on August 6, but there were issues regarding Rahman's weight.  The fight was called off shortly after.

“Anderson 'The Spider' Silva is the most versatile fighter the world has ever seen,” said Ball. “Just one year ago he beat boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., showing the world why he is the greatest fighter of all time.  Every expert, from mixed martial arts to boxing, said Jake Paul wouldn't fight Anderson Silva.  They said Jake Paul is afraid of Anderson Silva, and that Jake Paul is going to lose to Anderson Silva.  Well, for all the non-believers - Jake Paul fighting Anderson Silva.

“It is a great honor to have the opportunity to share the ring with the greatest striker the UFC has ever seen. On Saturday, October 29th, I will humbly enter the ring, touch the gloves with a living legend and do my best to annihilate 'The Spider.'"

Silva made his MMA debut in 1997 and joined the UFC in 2006. He defeated Chris Leben via KO on his UFC debut and went on to beat Rich Franklin to win the UFC middleweight title.  From 2006-2012, Silva set out in a legendary race.  He successfully defended the title 10 times and was in a 16 fight winning streak.

Since 2013, however, Silva's MMA run has taken a little detour.  After losing the middleweight title against Chris Weidman at UFC 162, Silva went 1-6 with not a single competition left.  Injuries, age and surgeries affected his career.  Silva's last fight was a TKO loss against Uriah Hall in October 2020. He was later released from his UFC contract.

Silva previously participated in the boxing ring in 1998 and 2005, winning 1-1.  He returned in 2021 by defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Mexico.  In September 2021, Silva knocked out former MMA fighter Tito Ortiz in the first round.  He recently fought Bruno Machado last May in an unrecorded match.

“I know that in life everything has a purpose,” Silva said.  “Nothing comes by chance. So I thank God for my health, my family and my team for giving me this opportunity to continue doing the thing I love most. I think this will be the biggest fighting event of the year and truly make history in the sport forever. See you October 29.”
